Tree from ollie miller on Vimeo.
A foray into synthesis of sound and image. I wandered around the park and found a nice old pine tree, filmed it and then recorded the sounds of me interacting with it. All sounds on the track are of different parts of the tree e.g. hitting the dead branches with other dead branches, rustling in the leaves and scraping the long serrated leaves over the tree trunk. I treated these sounds and shaped them in pro tools using EQ, time stretching , different reverbs and clip directions. Imported audio into Premiere and edited up a clip cutting to the shifts in sound and texture in the track. It is I guess ultimately an experiment in ways of animating (or bringing life to) image through structured sound.
An interesting thought that popped up for me, was that all string instruments (violins, cellos etc) and some woodwind instruments are made up almost entirely of wood and the organic qualities and timbres of these instruments would all integrate really easily with that tree. A further step in this process could be to blend in a layer of sound from a made wooden instrument i.e. a cello or wooden flute Comments are closed.
